A Poorly Frame
A large watercolour painting had suffered a mishap during in transit causing the frame to crack and various scuffs and scrapes on the silver leaf frame.
The glass was also broken but fortunately there was no damage to the artwork itself. As the picture was part of a series all in identical frames, it was decided to repair the frame rather than replace it.
We conducted a number of tests on strips of wood using silver leaf and various patination techniques to match the repairs.
The end result was pretty much indistinguishable from the rest of the frame.
The frame was glued and clamped and the rather large glass replaced.
